Corbu et al. (2020) define the third person effect as the belief that the media influences others more than it influences oneself. In conjunction with the attribution theory: the individual "‘tends to attribute his own reactions to the object world, and those of another, when they differ from his own, to personal characteristics in (the other)" (Corbu et al, 2020, p. 168).
The DOUBLE STANDARD
When users are personally involved they underestimate the impact of social media. A conscious understanding of connections, and reactions to ideals are understood.
Versus
In the perception of others characteristics and blinding the contextual and situational factors one overestimates social media effects (Corbu et al.,2020)
